In Kim McMillen's handwriting: When I loved myself enough, I began taking the gift of life seriously and gratefully.

— Kim McMillen, in her own hand

Written over the course of a lifetime by Kim McMillen, When I Loved Myself Enough is a spare and radiant collection of reflections on the slow, courageous journey toward self-acceptance.

Originally published by St. Martin's Press and embraced by readers around the world, the book found its largest audience through word of mouth — passed between friends, left on nightstands, given at the exact right moment.

Kim did not live to see the full reach of her words. Her daughter Alison has carried the book forward, and now offers it again — handmade, one at a time, as the intimate object it was always meant to be.

Every copy of this edition is made by hand, to order. There is no warehouse, no printing press — only carefully chosen papers, natural bindings, and the attention that a book about self-love deserves.

Covers are crafted from handmade and specialty papers: textured cotton, embedded leaves, deep forest greens, warm clays, and quiet creams. Each one is different. Each one is yours.

A mother's words.
A daughter's devotion.

About the Authors

Kim McMillen wrote these reflections across decades of her own life — a private record of what she learned when she finally chose herself. She never sought publication for its own sake. The words were enough.

After Kim's passing, her daughter Alison brought the manuscript to St. Martin's Press, where it found a devoted readership. Now Alison continues that work, keeping her mother's voice alive in these pages — and in each carefully made book that leaves her hands.
